Browsing "SEO Expert"
In frequenting a forum or two, I’ve come across some rather interesting questions and scenarios from time to time. Potential clients asking about techniques, both white and black hat, SEO “experts” posing questions that they should undoubtedly know the answers too, in order to consider calling themselves even an SEO, let alone an expert.
Today I encountered a scenario I wasn’t entirely ready for, a person who used to create and publish advertisements under the Google Adwords program, wanted to use Google as a reference on a job application for a position as an “SEO Expert”.
The biggest and most blatant problem with their question being notably; under Adwords, you don’t work for Google. The relationship between yourself and Google, is one of independant contractors, not as an employer/employee relationship. So, out goes that reference.
The second problem, and it’s as much a pet peeve as an actual issue, writing Adwords does not qualify a person to be a search engine optimization expert. Trying to draw the comparison between the two, would be the same as having applied to be a mechanic after changing a tire on your car.
Would you go see that “mechanic” with your business, knowing his prior experience?
It should be safe to assume that SEOs don’t know a thing about your industry. Ergo, We can also assume that most client’s don’t know anything about proper online marketing. Most clients think their audience is just like them, if they like technical details then that must be what the audience wants. If they like fluff then that’s what you have to provide because nobody looks at the technical stuff.
Nothing could be further from the truth, the target audience isn’t all like us. They search differently, they expect different things, and they respond differently. All of these differences aside howerver, there is one thing that all searchers have in common. They all want to know they landed on the right website. And if you don’t show them that with your content, they’re going to hit that back button.
Searchers don’t have time to figure out if you are going to meet their needs. Only once they know you do will they stay and read more or dig deeper. You only have a couple of seconds to grab their interest or they move off. If at first glance they don’t see their search results on the page, they are gone.
SEOs and clients can learn a lot from each other, but it takes a genuine collaborative effort. Knowing your stuff isn’t enough. Because you don’t know anything about SEO. How do I know?
Because you came to Fresh to do it for you.
Now, this may sound like a strange idea, but they two are actually much more alike than readily available. When it comes right down to it, baking is actually a very exact science. For perfect results, ingredients need to be measured, weighed, and added appropriately and at the right times. If you just take all of the ingredients for a cake, toss it in a bowl, stir and bake, chances are it’s not going to taste so good, and you’ll have to end up scrapping the whole effort. It would be a complete waste.
These exact same principles hold true when it comes to search engine optimization.
A cake has eggs, flour, sugar, butter, chocolate (yumm), some oil, and a few other here and there ingredients to make a yummy dessert. But we’ll go with the basics for now; flour, eggs, and sugar. If any of these are added in an incorrect amount, your cake will be terrible.
SEO, involves a great many details, keywords, content, coding practices, images, the list goes on and on. For the purposes of comparison, we’ll use keywords, content, and images. If any of these factors are handled improperly, or added/changed on your site incorrectly, your site will flop.
Just. like. the. cake.
When you’re looking for the perfect dessert for your party, you have it catered. You go to the professionals who you trust to bring you the results you deserve, and expect.
SEO, is no different than baking a cake it seems. Call us at Fresh, we’ll take care of your party for you.

What you need to know about investing into search engine optimization
Search engines are the dominant mechanism for almost all Internet users.
Almost 90% of online shoppers begin with search engines or directories to look for products and services and 96% of searchers do not go beyond the 2nd page of results.
Ranking highly in the search engines is more effective than most advertising because your audience is looking for you. Even right now they are searching you out. Amazing isn’t it. All that business just passing right by you.
All other forms of media, your audience is looking at something else and your ad is a distraction.
Search engine optimization is all about getting the exposure for your company by the most dependable salesman in the world
Between February 2008 and February 2009 the search business grew by 8%, impressive considering that search is second only to e-mail in online activity. More and more, the public is moving to the internet to find what they need and want.
Now 8% may not seem initially like a large number, and unfortunately that’s a problem for a lot of business owners blind to the potential of the internet; even with it being around for so long! Contacts who literally use the words:
“We have no website, nor ever plan to have one”
-Quick, what’s 8% of 307,752,000? (estimated 2009 US population)
It’s a conundrum, which unfortunately can’t be clarified without first hand experience. It’s like when you’re a child, and you first touch something which burns you, you’re apt to not do it again as you relate the pain with the extreme heat. The same goes for the internet, and lost potential therein. The big difference in the latter case however, is once you’re behind in the world of online marketing, you’ll find yourself caught in a race, which most times, feels like you can not win. Everyone else seems to have a stronger foothold, and an insurmountable following online, and in some cases.. that assumption is correct.
But there is a weapon, a tool, which can help you win the race, and slay the beats (of your competition). Don’t be fooled by the imitators, the true genius of Search Engine Optimization, is only evident within the inner workings of a site molded by an SEO master.
8% is 24,620,160 if you were wondering.
I frequent a few blogs and forums about search optimization, it’s tips and tricks, and there’s recently been a disturbing trend which seems to be developing. It’s summed up best, with the quote below.
“..reading up on SEO search optimization methods 2 hours over the night and its pretty overwhelming the amount of different strategies for posting, content and back links from other websites I guess in some sort of partnership which I’m not too excited about. I am now looking for short cuts as I don’t have the time nor energy..”
It’s only a handful of words, a couple of sentences, but there are so many problems and misconceptions just within that. The post continues on, and the poster actually asks about black hat seo and how he can use those techniques to rank his site. As anyone who legitimately works in the sector can tell you, that’s a great way to get black marked by the big G.
A major problem with the post, is the thought that with no prior knowledge, the poster could just scour the internet, and in a night or two, could learn all they need to about optimization in order to implement it on their site. That idea, that fallacy, in and of itself, is one of the most dangerous in terms of the industry.
Search engine optimization is not a medium to be taken lightly, or to be mistreated when you do make the step into the arena. SEO can be your businesses best friend and staunchest ally, or, it can be your downfall.
A simple comparison, an amateur golfer and a pro golfer. Putting the two into a competition on a course, irregardless of difficulty, one would never assume that the amateur would beat the pro. Experience, time on the “job”, and knowledge, would propel the pro into the winners circle.
So instead of duffing around and filling your site full of divots, give the pro’s a call at Fresh, we’ll take you to the winners circle every time.
Cell phone browsers, laptops, netbooks, and the “coming soon” Courier.. the wired world is becoming decidedly wireless. With the accessibility of the internet increasing by leaps and bounds, your online presence is becoming more, and more paramount to your success.
All of the basics that have been covered in the last week or so, should be in the fore front of your mind when getting ready to go online, and even if you already have an established presence. Nothing like showing existing clients your strength in the industry, than to launch a new, engaging website, designed with SEO in mind, and being constantly updated with new information and content.
Linking them to your Facebook/LinkedIn/Twitter/Blogger account for the on the minute updates, questions, and most recent news in regards to your growing, and changing business.
Look no further than the professionals at Fresh, to take care of all of your online needs.
Winnipeg SEO Experts Fresh Traffic will be in the limelight with our very own SEO Expert throwing out the opening game pitch this Friday at the Winnipeg Goldeyes home game. It’s been a little over 2 years since Jerry came to Winnipeg, and SEO in Winnipeg has changed quite dramatically.
SEO Experts are everywhere suddenly, pay-per-click management companies have cropped up, and web consultants city wide have taken notice of the whirlwind that is Jerry. Enigmatic, eccentric, and charismatic, known in some circles as the Google Optimization Guru, he’s brought Fresh Traffic’s expertise to Winnipeg and Canada’s SEO market. I’ve been working with Jerry for a little over 18 months, and it’s completely changed the way I use the internet. Improperly SEO’d sites stick out like sore thumbs, poorly coded, written and laid out; it’s painful to look at some local, and even global companies who’ve spent thousand’s on what is a “style before substance” website.
Search engine optimization isn’t a fly by night. Search engine marketing isn’t just “the latest” in terms of buzz. Internet marketing whether local in Winnipeg, nationally across Canada, or globally is here, and it’s here to stay. The code will change, the internet will evolve, grow, and adapt..but the fundamentals will remain. The sooner that the old boys realize that, the sooner they’ll realize their pocket books will begin to grow with a perfectly implemented SEO/SEM campaign from Fresh Traffic; Winnipegs tried, tested, and true, SEO Experts.
Search engine optimization (SEO) is more difficult than rocket science. Becoming a Jedi-level SEO master requires years of practice for most mere mortals, and like a Jedi, if one falls out of practice, one’s skills quickly wane.
This is not a static science. Search algorithms change constantly, and as they are carefully protected secrets, one can never know what those designing the search engines are really doing under the hood.
No, it’s not rocket science; A more apt analogy would be trying to reverse engineer a UFO that one can only see from afar, the specs of whose propulsion system constantly change.
Do not kid yourself: Becoming a genuine expert in this field is no easy task. In addition to all the knowledge needed, competition can literally be fierce. Your competitors may even actively sabotage you. One mistake can undo months of hard work.
If working on behalf of a client, you had better be darn sure that you keep your methods above board so that you do not get their site exiled to the far reaches of the Internet where it will never be found.
Meanwhile, some of your competitors will be using very underhanded techniques to try to make that happen. Like I said, it’s hard to reach Jedi level, and once you do, you have to take care to stay on the bright side of the Force.
If you are in business, it is extremely important to choose the right SEO company or employee.
If you want to become the right SEO company or employee, here are a few suggestions on ways to train yourself (and being self-taught is the only way to do this):
1. Build at least five websites and administer them for at least a year. Keep each one separarate from the others, its own little sanitary petri dish not to be sullied.
2. Go about it scientifically. Test hypotheses rigorously until you have a few bona fide theories. Keep good records and track results. Take special note of changes in search engine behavior and the keywords and descriptions that draw your visitors. Connect those changes to your SEO activities.
3. Learn how to identify effective keywords. Despite what you may have heard, this is not as easy as finding words that are both searched for and non-competitive. It’s best to be somewhat intuitive. What keyword combination are potential customers likely to use as opposed to bored or curious web surfers?
4. Use different tools until you find one that works. I have my favorite, but I’m not going to mention it in this article. We all have to have our little secrets.
5. Success before sales. Once you have at least 20 pages to the top for fairly competitive keywords, you can turn prospects into clients.
6. Play your cards somewhat close to your chest. Once you have some success, take a cue from the people who write the search algorithms and keep your exact methods to yourself. Also train and improve continuously so that your skills do not slip.
If you go through that training course, you will become a Jedi-level SEO expert who commands top dollar and deserves every penny.
Here at Fresh we have been doing this for over 10 years, yes the boss is really the master.
Well it seems myself and Google have yet again something in common, birthdays.
Google went public 5 years ago and Fresh Traffic moved to Canada 2 years to the day.
To say it has been a hard slog would be a understatement, 4/5 years behind the times where the Internet is concerned, It felt like the Jurassic era, some company’s here still think it’s a fad, unbelievable.
Never one to quit though we have soldiered on spreading the word of search marketing and web optimization use for business.
I was invited to come look at Winnipeg Manitoba the heart of the continent after intially agreeing to go setup office in Toronto, boy was I surprised.
The place is great, the people are great and lots of opportunity, but business marketing here is well, old and local.
Marketers here still look to local Rags, local radio, oh… and of course the billboards and buses. Some are still amazed with their zerox machines and some have fax too.
Now for someone who was taking payments by text message in Europe 6/7 years ago, marketing the internet in 1999 and leading the search engines top listings from 1997, you can see this would be a bit of shocker.
Times are changing though, the news has arrived that the US has a new President and yes he won the election with help from the internet. The local papers now talk about twittering and radio adverts even mention www. in advertising.
Manitoba is trying to be greener, so hopefully all the monies spent on glossy magazine advertising that get 500 readers might soon change to PDF’s and save loads of trees.
Fresh is trying to do its bit for Manitoba by planting the oranges and seeds around the Province in hope that they will one day take root and prosper the new business with fresh ideas.
Would I change anything? Not on your life
